As India is set to embrace the new 5+3+3+4 education system approved in 2020, since the last education policy in 1986. The NEP structure is as follows: -5 years of foundation stage
-3 years of preparatory
-3 years in middle
-4 years in secondary stage.
Career Counselling now becomes an essential from 6th Std for the following reasons :
1) The new education system gives the flexibility to choose internships and vocational subjects from 6th Std.
2) Students get flexibility to choose subjects of their choice over the 10+2 rigid concept of choosing from science, commerce or arts after 10th.
3) SAT like tests in schools to assess the student's Aptitude.
(Enrol for a Career Counselling session : Click here ) The NEP is designed to :
1) Assess the student's knowledge and application skills instead of the memorisation type of Board exams.
2) Create a strong foundation during the early development of children right from age 3-8 yrs, with 3 years of anganwadi and pre school.
3) Start schooling from and early age of 3yrs instead of 6yrs.
4) Create an eco friendly environment for children with disabilities, transgenders, Dalits like training and educating teachers to address their learning requirements.
The new NEP looks innovative, ambitious and promising, keeping in mind the social diversity and focusing more on developmental factor.

The nep is something which teachers will be able to comment better, since it is adcademic curriculum related and we as career counsellors judge students based on their innate inborn ability, aptitude. But the 5+3+3+4 system is the much needed educational reform which was needed to break the rigid 10+2 conventional system. Now students will have the flexibility of choosing subjects of their choice and explore more.
